SnS is a not-for-profit club to allow club members to share each others internet in Sussex & beyond.
We can connect you wirelessly to our systems - and provide you with cheap internet
We provide a standard club nembership internet connection for £6.95 a month or £60 a year.
We are looking for people to host nodes for us. Ideally, you will have an ADSL connection, although we are also looking for repeater nodes. Contact Ian NOW
You get PAID! Full, connected nodes get £5.50 of the £6.95 paid by club memberships per user per month, Annual memberships are split to give £50 to the internet supplier.
By sharing internet connections between many users, the costs can be shared amoungest a group. Our system provides the facilities to enable this type of sharing.
Totally! The RadioCommunications agency released the 2.4Ghz band for Wireless networks a few years ago. Our system works purely with Wireless Network technology. All our club members have facilities to connect off any of our shared access points
The Internet is an non-secure environment. However, as long as you use services which are secure (such as home banking) then you will be fine.
The wireless network we run has security protocols in place to stop people 'sniffing' the connection. Unauthorised users are not allowed on the Wireless Network, and so cannot interfere. Authorised users are advised to have adequate Firewall and Anti-Virus software installed on any machine connected to the Internet (not just the Mesh!)
Depending on your location, you might need an aerial outside.
| 1. | If you are very near to a Node, then you should be able to use just a simple wireless card that fits in your PC. |
| 2. | If you are out of a range for a simple wireless card alone, then an external Antenna can be fitted to increase the range |
| 3. | In extreme cases (1 mile approx from a Node) a directional antenna can be used to access the network |
We are not aerial fitters - we recommend that a qualified, insured antenna specialist installs the antenna for you. We will explain what you need to connect to the Network if required.
We are a group of enthusiasts who are trying to build a large network of users around Sussex. We do this for fun - because it makes us smile - and our hair go grey and fall out! Call us geeks/nerds - its about right! Our Wives are computer widows - now, aren't you glad you asked!
Well, a little goes to pay for this website, advertising, and repaying the money us geeks have already forked out. All our admin are volunteers, so none goes in wages! Although sometimeswe wished we did get paid! The lions share goes to Node owners, to help pay for their internet connection that you are using as part of the Network.
See our How it Works page.
